Who is An-Nawawi?

He is a scholar. His full name is Imam Muhyi al-Din Abu Zakariya Yahya bin Sharaf An-Nawawi. He was born in Nawa, a village near Damascus in 631 A.H. (1233 A.D.) and at the age of 19 went to Damascus to study under the guidance of countless scholars before he passed away in 676 (AH).  He was known for his diligence, intelligence, love, and devotion to his studies.

What is he known for?

He is well known by the many books he has written on Hadith, Islamic Jurisprudence, and Fiqh, among many other topics.

Who influenced his studies?

Imam Nawawi studied under the guidance of many scholars including:

Abu Ibrahim Ishaq AI-Maghribi, Abu Muhammad Abdur-Rahman bin Ibrahim Al-Fazari, Radiyuddin Abu Ishaq Ibrahim bin Abu Hafs Umar bin Mudar Al-Mudari, Abu Ishaq Ibrahim bin Isa Al-Muradi, Abul-Baqa Khalid bin Yusuf An-Nablusi, and Abul-Abbas Ahmad bin Salim Al-Misri
